A memoir does not need to include every event in the author’s life. Focus on scenes that change understanding, relationships or direction. Summarize routine stretches, then slow down at moments where readers need to see action, choice and consequence unfold.
Review chapter lengths and transitions as a reader would. If several chapters repeat the same emotional point, combine or reframe them. If a major turning point feels abrupt, add context or reflection. This balance creates momentum without minimizing the experiences that matter most.
